"Turn my eyes away from looking at what is worthless, and revive me in Your ways."

(Psalm 119:37)

ree

Our eyes are powerful. What we focus on shapes our thoughts, influences our emotions, and ultimately directs our actions. Today's verse is a prayer that acknowledges our tendency to fix our eyes on things that are empty, fleeting, and spiritually draining.

When we focus on what matters most, our soul is nourished, and our path becomes clear.

The psalmist pleads with God to turn his eyes away from what is worthless. This includes anything that distracts us from truth; whether it be materialism, lust, envy, pride, or mindless entertainment. These things promise satisfaction but always leave us dry. They may look harmless, but over time they erode our spiritual hunger and blur our vision of God’s purpose.

Instead, the psalmist longs to be revived in God’s ways. There is life, strength, and joy found when our gaze is set on the eternal. God’s Word and His ways don’t drain us; they restore us. When we focus on what matters most, our soul is nourished, and our path becomes clear.

Much of our past may have been filled with chasing what was worthless. But today, by God’s grace, we can choose differently. We can fix our eyes on Jesus and ask God to redirect our focus toward the things that bring life, not death.

What are your eyes fixed on today? Are there “worthless things” you need to look away from so your soul can be revived?

Lord Jesus, I confess that I’ve often focused on things that lead me nowhere. Turn my eyes from what is empty and revive me in Your truth. Teach me to treasure Your Word and walk in Your ways, finding life and purpose in You alone. Amen.

"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

(Habakkuk 2:14)

ree

In a world marked by brokenness, injustice, and rebellion, it's easy to wonder whether God's purposes will truly prevail. Habakkuk, lived in a time of turmoil and confusion and was given this incredible promise: there is coming a day when the entire earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord...as fully and completely as the waters cover the sea.

This promise is a certainty rooted in God's unchanging character. His glory will not be hidden. His righteousness will not be silenced. The fullness of who He is and His love, His justice, His holiness, and majesty, will one day be recognized by all creation.

For those of us drowning in life’s trials and unpredictable circumstances, or facing daily battles of faith, this promise is a reminder that our current struggles are not the end of the story. We are living for a kingdom that is coming and will cover the earth in fullness.

When discouragement creeps in, when it seems like evil triumphs, remember: God's glory will prevail. Your labor is not in vain. Your faithfulness is part of a much larger story that God is weaving together. This is a story that ends in complete restoration and the universal acknowledgment of His greatness.

Are you living today in the light of that coming glory? How can this promise give you renewed strength and hope?

Our Father, thank You for the assurance that Your glory will one day fill the earth. Help me to live with confidence in Your promises, to endure with hope, and to be a reflection of Your light in a dark world. Strengthen my heart today as I wait for the fullness of Your kingdom. In Christ’s name, Amen.

"For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

(Hebrews 4:12)

ree

God’s Word is not a static book filled with old stories...it is living, active, and powerful. His Word is sharper than any double-edged sword, cutting straight to the deepest parts of who we are. It doesn’t merely address our outward behavior; it penetrates our very soul, exposing our thoughts, intentions, and hidden motives.

In our journey through life, we often deal with surface level behaviors. But God desires something deeper: true heart transformation. His Word has the ability to reveal what we might otherwise ignore or hide. It uncovers the pride we mask as confidence, the fear we excuse as caution, and the bitterness we carry under the guise of strength.

Yet the cutting of God's Word is not to destroy us, but to heal us. Like a skilled surgeon’s scalpel, it cuts precisely to remove what is deadly and to restore what is broken. It shows us where we are wrong, where we need grace, and where Christ wants to bring freedom.

There is no substitute for time spent in Scripture. It is through the living Word that we are strengthened, corrected, comforted, and shaped into the image of Christ. If we allow it, God's Word will continually refine us, making us more whole and more holy.

Have you allowed the Word of God to examine your heart lately? Are there areas you are resisting His truth instead of embracing His healing?

Jesus, thank You for the living and active power of Your Word. Open my heart to receive what You reveal. Let Your Word shape me more into Your likeness and teach me to love Your truth and walk in it daily. In Your name, Amen.
