"These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete."

(1 John 1:4)

ree

Life can feel overwhelming at times. We all experience seasons of struggle—moments when joy feels distant and burdens feel heavy. In those times, it’s easy to look for something, anything, to ease the weight. But often, what we turn to only provides a momentary escape, not the lasting peace we truly need.

John reminds us that real joy is not found in circumstances, distractions, or quick fixes—it is found in a relationship with Christ. This joy is different from fleeting happiness; it is deep, steady, and unshaken by life’s challenges. It comes from knowing that we are fully known, fully loved, and never alone.

There may be days when joy feels impossible, when the past haunts us, or when the future feels uncertain. But even in those moments, God is near. He offers something greater than a temporary sense of relief—He offers completeness. A joy that remains, even in the struggle. A joy that isn’t based on how we feel but on who He is.

If you’ve been searching for joy in places that never truly satisfy, know that God is offering you something better. The more we turn to Him, the more He fills the empty places we once tried to fill on our own.

Are you seeking joy in things that fade, or are you placing your hope in Christ? How can you take a step today to embrace the lasting joy He offers?

Jesus, I admit that I have looked for joy in things that don’t last. I long for the kind of joy that only You can give—the kind that stays even when life is difficult. Help me to trust You more, to seek You first, and to let Your presence fill the emptiness inside me. Thank You for offering me complete joy. In Your name I pray. Amen.

"Then he believed the LORD; and He credited it to him as righteousness."

(Genesis 15:6)

ree

Abraham’s story is a powerful example of what it means to trust God completely. He had no tangible proof that God’s promise would come true, yet he believed—and that belief was counted as righteousness. Abraham’s righteousness didn’t come from his actions but from his faith.

For those of us who struggle with addiction, it’s easy to feel like we have to “earn” God’s favor. We may think that if we try harder, do better, or prove ourselves worthy, then we will be accepted. But our verse reminds us that righteousness is not about what we do—it’s about who we trust.

Faith means believing that God’s promises are true even when we can’t see the outcome. It means trusting that He is working in our lives, even when we feel unworthy or uncertain. Just as Abraham’s faith was credited as righteousness, our faith in Christ makes us right with God. It’s not about perfection, but about complete surrender to Him who is able to fully redeem and restore us.

Are you relying on your own efforts to be right with God, or are you trusting fully in Him? How can you strengthen your faith in His promises today?

Heavenly Father, help me to trust You as Abraham did. I surrender my doubts, my fears, and my need to control. Teach me to walk by faith, believing that Your promises are true. Thank You for counting my faith as righteousness, not because of what I do, but because of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

"For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."

(Psalm 30:5)

Are you holding onto hope, even in your darkest moments?

Life is filled with seasons of sorrow, struggle, and uncertainty. As we seek to grow and recover from our past ailments, we often experience setbacks, pain from our past, and moments of deep discouragement. Psalm 30:5 reminds us that while hardship may last for a time, God’s favor is greater, and His joy will come.

Weeping may endure through the night, but the night is not forever. The darkness of addiction, loss, or failure does not define us. God promises that morning will come, bringing renewal, restoration, and joy. His love and grace outlast our struggles, and His favor is upon us for eternity.

This verse teaches us to hold onto hope even when life feels overwhelming. No matter what you are facing today, God’s light is on the horizon. The pain of today is temporary, but His joy is eternal. Trust that He is working, even in the darkness, and that His mercies are new every morning.

What challenges or sorrows feel overwhelming in your life right now? How can you trust in God's promise that joy is coming?

Lord, thank You for the promise that my sorrow is not forever. Help me to trust that, even in the darkest nights, Your joy is coming. Strengthen me to endure with faith, knowing that Your love and favor will sustain me. Thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
