Faith That Counts

February 13

"Then he believed the LORD; and He credited it to him as righteousness."

(Genesis 15:6)

Abraham’s story is a powerful example of what it means to trust God completely. He had no tangible proof that God’s promise would come true, yet he believed—and that belief was counted as righteousness. Abraham’s righteousness didn’t come from his actions but from his faith.

For those of us who struggle with addiction, it’s easy to feel like we have to “earn” God’s favor. We may think that if we try harder, do better, or prove ourselves worthy, then we will be accepted. But our verse reminds us that righteousness is not about what we do—it’s about who we trust.

Faith means believing that God’s promises are true even when we can’t see the outcome. It means trusting that He is working in our lives, even when we feel unworthy or uncertain. Just as Abraham’s faith was credited as righteousness, our faith in Christ makes us right with God. It’s not about perfection, but about complete surrender to Him who is able to fully redeem and restore us.

Are you relying on your own efforts to be right with God, or are you trusting fully in Him? How can you strengthen your faith in His promises today?

Heavenly Father, help me to trust You as Abraham did. I surrender my doubts, my fears, and my need to control. Teach me to walk by faith, believing that Your promises are true. Thank You for counting my faith as righteousness, not because of what I do, but because of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
