"So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience;"
(Colossians 3:12)

We can all remember a moment when our affection for something moved us to make a meaningful choice—whether it was buying our first home, choosing a car, adopting a pet, or deciding where to go to school. These decisions were fueled by a deep desire to pursue what had captured our hearts. And more often than not, that pursuit came with a price: the cost of sacrifice, commitment, and determination.
In a much deeper and eternal sense, God also made a choice, one driven by His affection. He chose us. His desire has always been to have fellowship with His people: to love, nurture, and dwell with them. God longs for us to find our ultimate joy and satisfaction in Him.
Our own choices, when made from places of fear, doubt, or self-interest, often leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. But God's choice to love us fills us to overflowing with His grace and goodness. As we respond by putting on hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, His glory is magnified in and through us.
Yet this divine choice came at an immeasurable cost: the death of His Son. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, God obtained what He deeply desired; you. You have been redeemed, purchased, and chosen. You are holy and dearly loved through the work of Christ Himself.
What have you chosen in life that required sacrifice? Was it worth it? Would you choose it again?
Thank You, God, for choosing me. In all my brokenness and shame, You pursued me like a loving Father chasing after His child. You embraced me and showed me that I am truly loved.
Strengthen my faith through Your Word, and shape my heart to reflect Your compassion and grace. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
