"My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
(Psalm 73:26)

Life has a way of bringing us to the end of ourselves. Our physical strength wears down. Our emotional reserves run dry. Even our heart can feel like it’s crumbling under the weight of disappointment, loss, or failure. The psalmist Asaph understood this all too well. But in the midst of that reality, he declares something life-giving: God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
He becomes what we cannot be. He sustains what we cannot hold.
“My flesh and my heart may fail” is a confession we all must make at some point. But failure isn’t the end of the story. Because when our strength runs out, God’s strength begins to shine. He becomes what we cannot be. He sustains what we cannot hold. He is the strength within us when everything else seems to fall apart.
We are all too familiar with the feeling of weakness, and we know what it means to come to the end of ourselves. Yet this verse reminds us that God is not only able to strengthen us; He is our strength. And more than that, He is our portion: the One who satisfies, the One who remains, and the One who is enough.
When everything else fades; when people fail us, when dreams shift, and when our bodies grow weary, God remains. He is faithful. He is present. And He is more than sufficient for whatever today may bring.
Where do you need God’s strength today? Are you leaning on your own power, or are you trusting Him to be your portion?
Lord, I confess that my strength fails me, and sometimes my heart grows weak. But You are my portion and my strength. Be the anchor of my soul today. Help me rest in Your faithfulness and walk in Your strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
