"So, whoever will humble himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
(Matthew 18:4)

As we navigate life’s pains and struggles, we are called to do so with an attitude of humility. The opposite of humility is ego. Ego seeks its own interests and disregards the needs of others. It slowly “edges God out” of our lives in a vain attempt to elevate ourselves above those around us.
Like a child, humility keeps us teachable, even through life’s most difficult moments.
Humility, on the other hand, is a virtue that prioritizes others. Like a child, humility keeps us teachable, even through life’s most difficult moments. It allows us to celebrate the simplest joys with deep sincerity, without overcomplicating what was never meant to be complicated.
When we seek humility like a child, we are not embracing weakness. Rather, we are resting in strength; trusting in someone greater than ourselves to care for us and provide for our needs. We acknowledge that there is One who is willing and able to teach us, to guide us in the way that leads to eternal life.
Come to Him like a child; looking up with trust, relying fully on Him. He is gentle and humble in heart, and in Him, your soul will find true rest. He will teach you what real humility looks like: a humility so profound that it laid down His life for His friends; and you are His friend.
Have you embraced humility like a child? In what way has pride and ego hindered your pursuit of true humility through Christ?
Lord Jesus, thank You for embracing me, even as my heart continues to struggle with pride. Help me to seek after You with childlike humility, to remain teachable in every circumstance, and to trust that Your will is good and perfect in all things. In Your name I pray, Amen.
