"Not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you would inherit a blessing.”

 (1 Peter 3:9)

Our natural response when we are wronged is to fight back. Whether it’s a cutting word or a cold shoulder, everything in us wants to repay harm with harm. But in this verse, we are called to a different path; the path of blessing.

We are not called to reflect the world’s way of doing things but to reflect Christ. And Jesus didn’t return insult for insult. When mocked, He stayed silent. When wronged, He forgave. Today’s verse tells us that we too are called to bless instead of retaliate. Remember, this isn’t weakness; it’s strength under the control of the Holy Spirit.

When we bless those who hurt us, we aren’t excusing the offense; we are rising above it. We are living out our new identity in Christ. Therefore, there’s a blessing in return, not necessarily in the form of worldly gifts, but in spiritual peace, joy, and eternal reward.

You are not a victim of your past, nor a slave to your emotions. You are called to something greater. You are called to bless.

Who has hurt you recently? How can you respond with grace instead of retaliation?

Jesus, it’s hard to respond with love when I’ve been hurt. But I know You’ve called me to a better way of living. Help me to bless, even when I feel like retaliating. May my words and actions reflect Your grace and teach me to forgive as I’ve been forgiven. In Your name, Amen.

"Jesus said to him (Thomas), ‘Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? Blessed are those who did not see, and yet believed.’"

 (John 20:29)

Jesus looked ahead to generations of believers who wouldn’t have the privilege of seeing Him with their eyes. That’s where His words ring in our verse today: Blessed are those who did not see, and yet believed.”

Faith is not always about having answers. Rather, it’s about trusting the One who holds the answers.

Jesus is speaking directly to you and me. We didn’t walk the roads of Galilee. We didn’t witness the cross or see the empty tomb firsthand. And yet, we believe. Not because of sight, but because of faith that has been freely given by Him. Faith like this is not blind; it’s Spirit-led. It trusts God’s Word, clings to His promises, and hopes in those things that are yet unseen.

For many of us, belief can sometimes feel like a battle. We long to feel something, to see progress, and to have proof that God is working. But Jesus reminds us that there is a special blessing for those who trust Him, even when they don’t yet see the full picture.

Faith is not always about having answers. Rather, it’s about trusting the One who holds the answers. And the reward is real. Jesus blesses those who believe without fully understanding, who cling to Him through doubt, and who say “my Lord and my God” even without physical proof.

Where in your life are you being called to believe without seeing?

Jesus, I may not see You with my eyes, but I believe in You with all my heart. Strengthen my faith when I wrestle with doubt. Help me to walk by faith, not by sight, and to trust in Your promises no matter what I’m going through. In Your name, Amen.

"But Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.’"

(Mark 10:19)

ree

Today we live in a culture where "good" is assigned casually to most people. In today verse, Jesus points us to a deeper truth: true goodness belongs to God alone. It’s not something we achieve; it’s something only He has obtained.

Jesus alone fulfills the standard of true goodness.

Here we are called to humility. Left to ourselves, none of us are truly good. Even our best deeds are touched by selfish motives, ego driven pride, or fear. Scripture reminds us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). No amount of effort, morality, or religious performance can bridge the gap between our brokenness and God's holiness and goodness.

For those of us in the faith, this truth is freeing. We don't have to pretend to have it all together. We don't earn God's love by being "good enough." Instead, we come honestly, admitting our need, and trusting in the goodness of Christ who acted on our behalf by giving up His own life in order to save ours.

Jesus alone fulfills the standard of true goodness. He is the perfect sacrifice, the spotless Lamb who covers our failures with His righteousness. When we place our faith in Him, His goodness becomes our covering, and His Spirit begins the work of making us new.

Are you still trying to earn God’s favor by your own goodness, or are you resting in the perfect goodness of Christ?

Father, I confess that on my own, I fall short of Your perfect standard. Thank You for sending Jesus, who alone is truly good, to save and redeem me. Help me to rest not in my performance, but in Your grace and goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
