God's Purpose In Our Pain

March 3

"Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me ahead of you to save lives."

(Genesis 45:5)

The story of Joseph is one of betrayal, suffering, and redemption. Sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned, Joseph had every reason to be bitter. Yet, when he finally faced those who had wronged him, his response was one of forgiveness and faith. Instead of holding onto resentment, he saw God’s hand in the bigger picture.

What others meant for harm, God used for good. Joseph realized that his pain had a purpose—that God had placed him exactly where he needed to be, not just for his own sake, but to save others.

Life’s struggles can feel unfair, even unbearable. Sometimes we may wrestle with past wounds, wondering if healing is even possible. But Joseph’s story reminds us that God is always working, even in our most difficult moments. He can take our deepest hurts and use them for something greater than we ever imagined.

If you are struggling with your past or with forgiving those who have hurt you, remember that God is not finished with your story. He can take what was meant for harm and turn it into something beautiful. Your pain is not wasted—it has both meaning and purpose.

Are you holding onto past hurts, or are you trusting God to bring purpose from your pain? How can you shift your focus to see His hand at work?

God in heaven, there are things in my past that I don’t fully understand. But today, I choose to trust that You are working all things for good. Help me to forgive, to release bitterness, and to believe that You have a purpose for my pain. Thank You for going before me and for writing a greater story than I can see right now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
