Lift Your Hands in Praise

Updated: 3 hours ago

May 20

"Behold, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who serve by night in the house of the Lord! Lift up your hands to the sanctuary and bless the Lord."

(Psalm 134:1-2)

Today’s Scripture remind us that worship isn’t limited to daylight hours or emotional highs. True worship persists through the dark; literal and figurative. There is something deeply meaningful about honoring God in the quiet hours, when the crowds are gone, and faithfulness carries on unseen.

Lifting our hands is a physical expression of an inward reality: dependence, reverence, and surrender.

For those of us walking through seasons of struggle, the phrase “who serve by night” may resonate deeply. We know what it is to wrestle in the dark, to hold onto faith when feelings fade, and to press into God when no one else is watching. In those moments, God calls us to lift our hands, not in strength, but in surrender.

To “bless the Lord” is to praise Him, to honor His name, and to acknowledge His goodness, even when circumstances feel uncertain. Lifting our hands is a physical expression of an inward reality: dependence, reverence, and surrender. It’s not about performance; it’s about posture; a heart turned upward, even in the night.

Are you in a “night season” right now? Will you still bless the Lord?

Lord, even in the quiet and the dark, I choose to worship You. I lift my hands not because of how I feel, but because of who You are. You are worthy of praise at all times. Teach me to bless You with my whole heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
