"Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.”
(Psalm 51:1)

David’s words in today’s verse flow from a heart broken over sin. Confronted with his failure, he turns to God, not with excuses, but with a plea for mercy. He doesn’t base his request on his own merit but on God’s faithfulness and compassion. David knows that only God can cleanse him and restore his heart.
This posture of humility is essential for those of us who wrestle with addiction. We all carry the weight of mistakes and wrongdoings, but God’s mercy is greater than our failures. He invites us to come to Him with our burdens, trusting in His unfailing love to wipe away our sins and give us a fresh start.
God’s mercy is not something we earn—it’s a gift freely given. When we approach Him with honesty and repentance, He is faithful to respond with grace, cleansing us from guilt and setting us on a path toward healing and restoration.
What sins or burdens are you carrying that you need to bring to God? How can you trust in His faithfulness and compassion to cleanse and renew you?
Gracious God, thank You for Your mercy and compassion. I come to You with a humble heart, confessing my wrongdoings and asking for Your forgiveness. Cleanse me and restore me according to Your faithfulness. Help me to walk in the freedom and renewal that only You can provide. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
