The Power to Give Life

May 21

"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes."

(John 5:21)

In today’s verse Jesus reveals a truth that not only affirms His divinity but offers us the greatest hope imaginable: the Son, like the Father, has the power to raise the dead and give life.

This is more than physical resurrection; it also speaks to spiritual rebirth. We were once dead in sin, unable to save ourselves or change our hearts. Yet Jesus, full of mercy and authority, came not just to improve our lives, but to give us life. Real life. Eternal life. A life awakened by grace and transformed by His Spirit.

Let this speak directly to the heart of your need. We don’t just need a better version of our old life; we need a new life. And this is exactly what Jesus offers. He doesn’t wait for you to clean yourself up. He calls you out of death and into life; just as He did with Lazarus, just as He did with countless others, and just as He promises to do with all who believe.

Christ has the power to raise what is broken, to breathe life into what is lost, and to restore what sin tried to destroy. His authority is not limited. He gives life to whom He wishes, and if you are reading this, you can be confident: He wishes to give life to you.

Are you trusting Jesus not just as a teacher or example, but as the One who gives life? Have you allowed Him to raise you from spiritual death?

Jesus, thank You for having the power to give life. You found me when I was dead in sin and called me into something new and beautiful. Help me walk in that new life every day, trusting in Your grace and Your power to sustain me. In Your name, Amen.
