Trust Through Loss

January 17

"…The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

(Job 1:21)

Job’s words in the face of immense personal tragedy are some of the most profound in Scripture. Despite losing nearly everything—his possessions, children, and livelihood—Job responds with worship, acknowledging God’s sovereignty. His declaration, “The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away,” reflects a heart that trusts God, not because of what He provides, but because of who He is.

We often face seasons of loss—loss of old habits, relationships, or even identities tied to past struggles. It can be painful to let go, but Job’s example reminds us that God remains worthy of our praise in every season. Trusting Him through loss opens the door for Him to bring healing, growth, and new beginnings.

Blessing the name of the Lord during trials doesn’t mean ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine. It’s an act of faith that acknowledges His goodness and sovereignty, even when life feels uncertain. It’s a reminder that He is present in our losses and working all things for our ultimate good.

What losses have you experienced in recovery, and how have they shaped your relationship with God? How can you choose to bless His name, even in difficult times?

Lord, thank You for being constant in every season of my life. Help me to trust You, even when I experience loss or uncertainty. Teach me to bless Your name in both joy and sorrow, knowing that You are sovereign and good. Strengthen my faith as I walk with You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
